A JOURNEY IN MAIOLICA: ITALIAN RENAISSANCE TO AMERICAN CONTEMPORARY Through December 19th Rosen House Tickets: Included with Rosen House admission of $10.00 Liz Quackenbush, guest curator
The latest exhibition at Caramoor's Rosen House features an array of fanciful scenes - a crowned goddess flanked by winged cherubs; serpents swarming in a turbulent sea; horned satyrs dancing in the forest; Adam and Eve tempted in the garden, and more - all depicted in vivid yellows, blues, greens, and beautiful ochre hues. These biblical, historical and mythological images, selected from the Museum's permanent collection, are all the more remarkable because they exist on the face of 16th-century Italian maiolica pottery. Also, of particular interest, is a set of twelve Catalan tiles from the 18th to the early 19th century, designed by Francisco Goya y Lucientes (1746-1828) depicting whimsical musicians.
Caramoor's fine examples of the popular Renaissance art form maiolica will be displayed along with artwork by several of today's top ceramic artists working on contemporary majolica - Rosie Wynkoop, Terry Seibert and the exhibitions's guest curator, Liz Quackenbush. The artists will have several pieces for sale in the Museum shop. Works by Contemporary Artists.
Rosen House Tours - Tuesday to Friday, 10:00am - 3:00pm by appointment only. To make an appointment please call 914.232.5035 ext. 221.
